Program Description

A monthly training program designed to educate and train Arizona referees, judges, volunteers, and competitors on the current USA Karate rules of competition for kata and kumite.

Training Dates and Times

The program will be held every first Thursday and third Wednesday of the month from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM

Invited Participants

Everyone is invited who wants to understand the rules and protocols used in our sanctioned USA Karate Arizona competitions. Though the focus and structure is geared for referee development, all parties (competitors, coaches, instructors, and parents) will gain a complete understanding of competition rules.

Halloween at the Dojo

POTLUCK EVENT
Please bring your most gut wrenching, vomit inducing, foul smelling, dish to share with the rest of the dojo!

KATA COSTUME CONTEST
Students perform a pinan kata in their Halloween costume and may add moves or props to their kata based on their costume. For example, if you're dressing up as a ninja, you may add rolls or other ninja type actions to your kata. Competitors will be given a score by a three judge panel based on creativity and entertainment value. We will have prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place for those with the three highest scores.

DIVISIONS AND START TIMES
7 years of age and under - 11:00 AM
8 to 12 years of age - 11:45 AM
13 and over - 12:30 PM
*Competitors must arrive before their competition start time to enter

COSTUME CONTEST
Contestants will be judged on the most creative HOMEMADE costume.

WHAT WE NEED
* Gift card donations ($10 to $15) for kata costume contest. We have been able to give everyone contest a gift card for the past few years. Let's keep that going!
* Volunteers for the day of the event; Set up, clean up, throw up, organizing activities, etc.

Funds from this event will be used to help financially challenged Arizona youth participate in traditional karate training, competition, and in other sanctioned USA Karate AZ events.

FEES
$120 per person - includes green fees, practice balls, cart, prizes, and lunch.
Registration deadline is October 20th. After October 20th, participation will be based on space available.

Saturday, Dec. 2nd from 9 AM to 12 PM at Scottsdale Martial Arts Center.

This event is open to the public but noise must be kept to an absolute minimum!

All Saturday classes will be cancelled.

SMAC Holiday Potluck

Saturday, December 2nd from 6 PM to 8 PM

Please join us as we celebrate the end of another great year and congratulate our 2017 black belt candidates. This year we will be bringing back "The Art and the Way." A theatrical performance about the history of Karate.
